Concur-Lufthansa Partnership Commitment to Europe and Trouble for GDS providers?

Lufthansa Group is the latest TripLink Partner of Concur starting in 2016. This is not only great news for Concur users, who travel a lot with Lufthansa, because they can now book directly at the Lufthansa website and still have the data flowing directly into Concur. iStock_000023903279_Lufthansa-planeIt is also great news for the whole European market, as it is further evidence that SAP is making an effort to turn Concur into a real global solution rather than a US-minded product with a global market aspiration. Further important European partners for Concur are HRS (Hotel Reservation Service with a focus on the German speaking market, but available in many countries), Deutsche Bahn (Major German Rail provider – unfortunately not yet integrated for Concur customers based outside of Germany) and Trainline (Train tickets from all UK providers).

The decision is particularly relevant, because Lufthansa recently announced a significant fee for all bookings through GDS systems. So, direct bookings will probably save quite a bit of money. Concur and Lufthansa may be at the forefront of a pretty disruptive process here: taking two middle-men (and therefore two layers of cost) out of the booking process for business travel and replacing the GDS as well as the TMC by modern cloud based technology.
