1st Things 1st: SAP’s Cloud Centric Strategy –
End of Maintenance for SAP HCM On-Premise
Before we even look at the table of contents, some points all SAP HCM customers should know:
Some customers still seem unaware of or confused about the roadmap for HCM (incl. Travel 6 Expense). Therefore, here are the essentials:
- After Talent Management in 2015, SuccessFactors has now become the official „go forward solution“ for the whole of HCM.
- For Travel and Expense, Concur is the go forward solution.
- The „go forward solutions“ are those, where you can expect most of the innovation, whilst the other solutions only receive limited „selected innovation“ investment. Go forward solutions include payroll in the „Employee Central Payroll“ solution, which is using the technical solution you know from on-premise, but is hosted by SAP.
- For all of on-premise HCM, maintenance and support are only guaranteed until 2025 (which is a very long time, to be fair).
- So, it’s clear, that customers need to think about their roadmap. It’s not only SAP, but the whole industry that’s focusing investment on the cloud. So, your roadmap is very likely to point towards „cloud“ eventually – and SAP arguably offers the most well rounded vision in the market.
- At the moment, the innovation happening in the cloud and advanced features are a stronger reason to move than the deadline looming far in the future.
- So, no need to panic – but also no justification for inertia.
